Updated plans submitted for the police station site

In February, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council’s planning committee granted permission for the redevelopment of the police station site with 169 homes and circa 600sqm of commercial/community space. Since then, Aster Group has been fine tuning its plans and has submitted updates to BCP Council. The Council is publicising the revised plans and they are available for public viewing here.

The changes to the plans are very minor and largely demonstrate compliance with Housing Quality Indicators, paving the way for a smooth construction phase. The principal elements of the development remain unchanged.

The scheme will replace the derelict police station and magistrates’ court buildings, underused car parks and scrub land with much-needed new houses and flats, 53 of which will be affordable homes. The remaining homes are a comprehensive mix of 1 and 2 bedroom flats, 2, 3, 4 and 5-bedroom family houses and 39 retirement apartments.

The proposal also improves connectivity for shoppers and the community more broadly between Bargates and the High Street. New crossings and cycle paths will provide safe walking and cycling routes. The attractive new commercial frontage on to Fountain Roundabout will repair the existing ‘break’ in the commercial frontages of the two streets, drawing custom along and into each.

Aster’s vision is ‘everyone has a home’ and this mix of high-quality homes delivers on that vision for local residents, reflecting independently assessed local needs.
