Aster Group is holding a public exhibition on Tuesday 15th May at the Kings Arms Pavilion, Castle Street for local residents to view plans to regenerate the old police station site.
The exhibition will give local residents and business owners the chance to have their say and give feedback on the draft proposals. Visitors will also have the chance to ask questions to representatives of Aster, who exchanged contracts on the site earlier this year; other attendees will include the planning consultants and construction partners.
The proposed scheme includes over 100 new homes for a mixture of affordable rent, shared ownership and open-market sale. Plans also include new retail space to boost the vibrancy of the Bargates shopping precinct and around 50 retirement flats.
Aster Group was selected as the preferred bidder for the site by Christchurch Borough Council, Dorset County Council, Dorset Police and the Hospital of St. Mary Magdalen Trust following a competitive tender process. The council recognised the group’s commitment to providing homes that suit the needs of the local community.
Over a decade ago Christchurch Borough Council identified the redevelopment of the police station and its associated lands as pivotal to their town centre strategy. More recently, it has been identified as one of Christchurch’s few major brownfield options, offering a valuable opportunity to reduce the pressures to build on Christchurch’s green fields.
